Hand Sewn Spanish Espadrilles

Posted by kim on December 4, 2009

Some of my favorite shoes I wore in highschool were some red patterned espadrilles.  I’ve saved them and even wore them to an 80’s party earlier this year. Now twenty years later, my daughter has hoarded them, and they are practically falling apart.

So I was ecstatic (as was my daughter) when Diego Arnedo, owner of Espadrillestore.ca sent me a pair of these Espadrilles with red stripes to review! Thank you!

All Espadrilles (Alpargatas in Spanish) are entirely hand crafted in the small Spanish town of la Rioja, Spain. These shoes are 100% eco-friendly with Spanish materials and have been produced in the same village for centuries.

Diego also sent me a picture he took this past summer in his village of his aunt actually sewing by hand a pair of red striped espadrilles…

Get your own Classic Espadrilles with red stripes, $29.95.

And check out Espadrillestore.ca for more styles and colors!

Celtic Moon Barefoot Sandal

Jan from Jewels-byJan.com sent me some of her handmade Celtic Moon Barefoot Sandals to review, and I must say I absolutely love the concept.  It’s too bad that I can’t stand anything between my toes to actually wear them for long periods of time (yes, I have a problem). I did wear them for a picture.

Now if I was to get married in Jamaica or the Bahamas, I would probably endure them as they would be the perfect “something blue”, and I’m actually partial to the “celtic star” symbol. Of course, Jan also makes several special styles that are actually designed especially for brides.

I could wear these beautiful bead barefoot sandals if I were ever to take up belly dancing (ain’t gonna happen).  I could also wear them as ankle bracelets (that I could see happen).  But I think I’ll add them to my “shoe loot” and give away a big shoe package to one lucky shoeaholic in the near future, so stay tuned for your chance to win!

Tour of Zappos!

Zappos.com Tour

I’m back from Viva Las Vegas – great trip!  One of the highlights of my trip was getting a tour of the Zappos.com headquarters, and all I can say is WOW! To deliver WOW through service is one of Zappos’ Ten Core Values.

I was amazed at the excitement of the employees, and the fun work environment, from the complimentary cafeteria lunches to the napping room.  It looks like an awesome place to work! Tony, the CEO, was out of the office, but his desk is among the rest of the employee’s cubicles.

At the end of the tour, everyone received a complimentary bookbag and book of their choice from a collection of books that Tony personally recommends.  I picked out Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap… and Others Don’t by Jim Collins. I can’t wait to read it!

Above, that’s a picture of my foot on the Zappos logo on the shuttle that picked us up. See more pics from the Zappos tour and my trip to Vegas on Flickr.

Special thanks to Lori of Las Vegas Net Daily for setting up the tour for us! If you are ever in Vegas, I highlight suggest setting up a tour of Zappos – it’s fun and free! Now I want to tour the distribution center in Kentucky!
